Pacesetters New Balance 15km Run - 17/05/2009

Lake Garden
Kuala Lumpur

This year's 15km run organised by the Pacesetters Athletic Club Malaysia (PACM) brought some surprises to runners.Unlike last year's starting point at Padang Merbok, the organiser moved back to Tapak A and of course ample parking spaces are available,be it at Bukit Aman or near the children's playground.

Besides that, the tougher and longer distance caught many unaware especially at the beginning of the race.

Runners were directed to run in a narrow path spirally leading to the Tun Abdul Razak Memorial and the bird park before into the Jalan Parlimen.

I was told a total of 1,800 participants signed up for this anually event sponsored by New Balance. The starting point was rather overcrowded eventhough the organiser decided to flag off the male participants first. There was a slight delay for no apparent reason and the air honk went off at 7.05am.

The women were made to wait for another 15 minutes later so that the slow male participants would not obstructed them.

Except for some arrogant drivers honking impatiently at the Jalan Parlimen/Jalan Tugu traffic lights, adequate water stations and the presence of police traffic men and a check point along the course proved PACM was doing exceptionally well in organising such an event.

Not many KPAC members were there to support this run as we were co organising a charity run in Taman Cahaya,Taman Pertanian,Shah Alam on the same morning.

Only a handful of us and of course at the front lines were Richard Habeya and Ahmad Lamchannak-our two hopeful 'comrade'

And again the foreigners conquered the podium, the Kenyans especially. The locals did their best to deny their dominance.

Run For Harmony-Charity Run 17/05/2009

Approximately 600 participants took part in this morning charity run in Taman Pertanian Malaysia,Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam,Shah Alam.

The event was co organised by the Buddhist Light International Association (BLIA) and Klang Pacers Athletic Club (KPAC).

Besides the 8 km run,the 3 km fun walk attracted many young participants from various Buddhist associations from as far as Johor.

Our president, secretary Mr Ong Teck Keong, treasurer Jimmy Yang and his deputy,Mr Ng Thean Chor and commitee member Mr Lum Kiok Ming were there to supervise and monitor the event. Many KPAC members voluntarily helped in the water stations and placed themselves at junctions and corners to ensure the safety of all participants.

The run was flagged off at 7.30am.Eventhough it was just an 8 km run,the hilly terrain and undulating route proved too tough for many runners. The first few kilometre of the run already saw many walking ascendingly, gasping and panting.

There were only two categories in this event-the men and the women open and 30 medals were offered to each category.

Our members dominated the men category.Murali Nathan grabbed the first placing in the absence of many talented runners who were away at Lake Garden-NB15km.

In the women category,Seah Bee Lian who is recovering from a thigh injury came in second after a 3 months lay off.She was leading but due to lack of training saw her losing out at the final kilometre.

Der Pacemakers Circuit Run 1 - 01/05/2009

Lake Garden
Kuala Lumpur

Two of our most hardcore members,Naresh Kumar and Murali Nathan took part in the 'Der Pacemakers Circuit Run 1' held in Lake Garden playground on 1st of May (coincided with our breakfast run).

This 'part one' of circuit run was initiated and organised by the 'Der pacemakers Network'-a group of enthusiastic runners as preparation for those who are taking part in the approaching SCKLM which will be held on the 28th June 2009.

In the gruelling ten laps of 2.8km around the Lake Garden and Sri Carcosa,Naresh and Murali completed the course in 2nd and 3rd placing respectitively, behind fast improving Jasni Khairil. The recent hot and humid weather including staircase climbing contributed too much agony to all participants.

Naresh Kumar came in second clocking 2h 10m 42s and followed by.....

....Murali Nathan,third with a time of 2h 13m 45s
