Kuala Lumpur City Day Run 22/02/2009

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The last race event that was staged here in Dataran Merdeka as long as l can remember was the Merdeka Unity Run which was held on 17th August 2008.The atmosphere was still the same as before.Runners began to flock the dataran as the clock ticking towards the starting time.

Bang..7.30 am sharp the race was officially gunned off by Datuk Haji Salleh B Yusup, the director general of Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL)

As expected the number of participation was very encouraging.Probably due to the ban imposed on the international runners such as the Kenyans recently by the FTAAA and the cheap registration fee of rm5.00.Moreover the medals allocated for each category were increased.

However, unlike the good times, the number of sponsors deteriorated.Only MILO and 100plus were seen giving out free drinks to participants.

As usual the men open, women open and men junior veteran which were required to run the 10km course started the race. And later the 7 km run which was made up of the junior and senior runners.

Below are the results of how our club members fared in this morning run.

It was a new experience to some of the KPAC members that took part in yesterday's cross country.Only three of us ran the course few years back and we could not recall much of how tough and rough the route was.

Many turned up as usual, early in the morning especially the school children.A one lap speed racing of 2.3 km (kids dash) was organised for these children to promote and encourage youngsters to be active in running.

As for the older ones, this cross country event was far less challenging compared to the Genting trail blazer.Nevertheless many admittedly cheated on the short cuts that went unmanned.

The race was gunned off batch by batch to avoid congestion especially at the jungle trail up on the Bukit Tunku hill.It was an 8 km run for the men open category and they started the race followed 10 minutes later by the the 6 km run for the women, men junior, boys and girls categories.

What surprised me yesterday was the usage of time chip system here.It was an improvement for FTAAA and they should be praised for their awareness of accurate time recording and avoid cheatings,of course.

About 10 of us were there and we were mostly made up of young runners.Only Khoo Thiem Seng and me were in the veteran category. It is a good sign for the KPAC as the club needs badly young runners.

Our best performer yesterday was none other than Seah Bee Lian.Although it was a first time for her but she made us proud with her excellent run and emerged third in the women open category.
