The Gruelling Ride-Klang to Ipoh

I have just received this great news eventhough it took place a month ago.Few people are aware that besides running activities, the KPAC has a group of cyclists who is actively organising rides and also participate in top level cycling and ironman competitions.

On 17th of November, the eve of KRI road race, our heroes, spearheaded by our very own secretary,Mr Ong Teck Keong took the challenge to ride to Ipoh via the old trunk road from Klang town. The rest of the group are Yap Leong Chin,Yee Sing Seng,Hansome Quek,Gan Leng Leng,Ma Hong Choon,David Cheam and Chua Ah Boon.

The journey started near the Klang Parade shopping complex in Jalan Meru at about 7.45 am and they headed to Teluk Intan spiritedly.En route the ride they stopped at Sg Besar for a short break and also to refill their drinking bottles.I was told that the traffic's volume was low and the cloudy weather allowed our friends to enjoy their ride through the beautiful sceneries of coconut plantations, streams and also paddy fields.

At Teluk Intan, they stopped for a simple lunch and it was already noon, prompting them to resume their journey before another two short breaks for refilling again. The weather was kind to them all the way.The first few cyclists reached the destination at around 5.45 pm and the last was 6.30 pm.

They resided at the Heritage Hotel at Jalan Raja Dihilir and according to Mr Ong,the hotel management was very friendly, helpful and also kind to allow them to keep their racing bikes which can be dismantled, in the rooms.

The whole ride took them approximately 10 hours, covering a distance of 235 km.What a gruelling ride and definitely a back breaking one too.A big salute to the KPAC cyclists.

The next morning, one of them participated in the 12 km race and emerged 4th in the 'F' category. He is Mr Yee Sing Seng, completed the course in 52 min 43 seconds. It was an amazing feat by this 'ironman' and he made us very proud that day.
