Ekiden Relay - 16may2010

Precinct 3
Opposite of Palace of Justice
Putrajaya

Finally, after two attempts, our quintet of Jasni Khairil (1st runner),Naresh Kumar (2nd),Gunaselan (3rd),Murali Nathan (4th) and Nor Amelia (last runner) emerged champion in the Mixed group event this morning in a time of 54m 36s.

Our team who had been playing second fiddle for the past two years and this morning's victory is indeed a sweet revenge for our runners. Our team was beaten into second place in the final 200m last year.

To make it a more memorable feat, the victorious run was witnessed by our new president,John Heng ,TC Ng (Asst.secretary) and Seah Leong San (Asst.treasurer) who were there to give their fullest supports.

The relay was delayed due to some misunderstandings. It was reported that some buses used to ferry the runners to their respective zone lost their away.

At 8.15am the race was finally gunned off and Jasni wasted no time.He pulled off to give a short lead to Naresh.Naresh made no mistake to maintain the lead before handing over the sash to Gunaselan.Unfortunately our third runner was overtook by a faster runner and our friend trailed behind but in a close distance.

Jasni surged forward once the race was started

Murali, our most consistent runner managed to regain the lead and by the time he passed the 'tasuki' to Nor Amelia, the gap that Murali had helped to build made the latter work easier. The petite Amelia zoomed back unchallenged to give our team its first victory.

Nor Amelia ran alone to the finishing line escorted by a traffic outrider on the left amid cheering and clapping from the crowd.

Credit must be given to Naresh for the trouble he took to form such a well balanced and good coordinated team.More over he helped to register the run and organised the running sequence.
