New Balance Klang Pacers 1/2 Marathon - 27/4/2008

At 5.30am the traffic at the surroundings of Stadium Padang Sultan Sulaiman was unusual busy.Buses and cars were seen looking for parking space as more and more runners emerge from every corners. Some were busy warming up and chit-chat among themselves about how they going to conquer the distance. Not as easy as a runner thought, the humid and dry weather with no overnight rain to spare, the route chosen by the KPAC committee is equally challenging compared to most of the 21km run organised locally.

The bonus of the run is of course the scenic route took us through Bandar Botanic,Bukit Tinggi Jaya Jusco, the Bukit Tinggi residential area and subsequently back to Kampung Jawa before heading straight to stadium.Road marshals consist of the Klang police traffic officers, the Rela and voluntary scouts as well as KPAC members helped to ensure the race is smooth and free from any unwanted incidents. All junctions and traffic lights were well manned with no report of confusions.

Back to the stadium, every runners were greeted by the emcee,Ms Adele.Their name were announced to the applause of spectators as they made their way to the finishing line.

I had signed up for the run but did not run in the end. Why? Because I encountered a very rude person on the phone when I was on my way to collect my vest.

I needed directions to get to the Klang Pacers club as I live 50+km away from Klang. As I was approaching Klang, I called the person who was listed on the card and also the envelope. This person unforunately had the worst telephone manners ever plus did not know shit. When asked how to get to your club house, I was told to ask someone instead. All this done in a very rude way of course. That made me lose confidence in the organisation of your run. I was angry as I had driven more than 50km. It will mean driving another 50km back to my house and the next day 100+km return to participate in the run. This person did not know how to direct me, nor passed me to someone who could.

I will not be signing with you again next year but for the sake of your club's reputation, I would suggest that you put the number of someone with better phone manners for runners who may call up. Also to make sure the person actually know how to get to your club house.

I'm one of the participant in this run today. Those are the things i discover and would like to share with all the runners especially for the event organiser so that they make the next event even better.

Basically, i'll rate this run 7/10.
These are my reasons:
Good points-
1) Nice running route especially near the bandar botanic area. The scenery is simply fabulous.
2) There's ushers at every coner of the route.Good direction from them.
3) Nice finishing medals. Different from other races where the medals are usually round and dull. This one looks like a superman logo to me.
4) Water station not congested.Unlike the KLIM where all the water station were packed of people.I had to waste 1-2min to get the water. This one i can straight get the water and continue my run.
5) Unlike the person that 'min' encountered, I had a nice person (Mr. Wong, the president)who solve my problem with the payment.( or else i woundn't be joining this run.

Bad-
1) No champion chip system application? The manual timing may not be fair for the runners starting back from line even thought it only make less than 1min difference.
2) Lack of direction near the finishing line. I was running towards the crowded area ( the powerbar selling station as I thought i need to go through there)
This waste about 1min of my time and upset me.
3) Payment problem. I pay by bank in into the KPAC account and fax the bank slip, but to my suprise they say i haven't pay.Luckily this is being solve by Mr.Wong. Thanks for the help.

To Min, I understand your frustrations, I too was lost looking for the Clubhouse, and wasted half my Saturday in Klang. I called them many times for directions. I think they have received numerous phone calls and the frustration was getting to them. You should not have let one person ruin your race. It was a really enjoyable race and I did my personal best time.

To the organiser, you should have made us collect the vest and bib at the stadium instead, like other races. The directions to your clubhouse was confusing for out-of-town folks.

dear min, sori i mean miss min. absolutely agreed with you about kpac poor coordinator. this club suffer from having a good intelligient person to converse deligiently and with full courtesy.perhaps they are still hunting for one. so be patient.
the ten km run for the women was a total right off. those good ladies'runners who were ahead after shot fired, returned to see the poor runners already completed. well below 40 mins!!! the reasons were simple. therewere no people manning the road so the slow ones ran into a wrong directions and whop! emerged the winners... short cut at the expenses of those fast runners and the fault of organisers. anyway min see u next kpac run, dont absent its only a sport. u get into same problems again, highlight it and i will screw the organisers with a golf stick.

Dearest Tomman,
Let us give KPAC a chance as they are their 1st 21 n 10 km run. After all as mentioned by KPAC they are trying hard to improve in every race. I,m a runner in 10km also n I see no problem at all n I,m having fun especially when someone call my name at the finish line. If u do not mind, r u a runner?

Congratulations and thank you to all the Klang Pacers Athletic Club members and volunteers for organising such a great run. Syabas to all the dedicated photographers whose contributions were just as important.
Keep it up!

Mr Tomman,as I said I'm here to enjoy the race and to get more expose, afterall I won't be in top 10 or 20 so why all the trouble complaining. I guess you must be the top runner, no wonder you need to complain and to get the organizer to buck up.
